with other districts, it possesses a strong economy. Its principal income is tourism and it obtains an additional support from cattle breeding. San Isidro de El General is known as an exotic place. The main tourism activity comes from its closeness to national parks, waterfalls and mainly to the sea.
San José is a big enough city, with commercial centers and a lot of development. From here, we can travel to different places, like Chirripó National Park, which is the most famous mountain in Costa Rica due to its altitude, since it’s its highest mountain, 3.820 meters above sea level. It’s over a hill belonging to the Talamanca's Mountain Range, which divides the country in northwest and southeast. It’s located in the Conservation Area La Amistad - Pacific Ocean, located to the south of the country. In the hill there are two big elevations, one 3.800 meters and other one 2.000 meters. Between January and May the forest is very sensitive to forest fires. Many trees of all sizes, as well as heaps of plants vary due to the climate. All year round at night the temperature goes down considerately. This means that during the day it is very hot and very cold at night (9 degrees Celsius below zero) in comparison with the rest of the national territory that has an average of approximately 20 degrees Celsius all the year round.
Besides coffee plantations and farming fields, the climatic variety allows a development and change in the flora and fauna. This area is a high plateau mountain with shrubs of approximately 4 meters high. At a lower altitude we will find the Humid Cloud Forest, with cold temperatures and trees not bigger than 50 meters, like the Encino and oak. You can also find lots of moss, ferns, and bromeliads. Among the animals that we can find here there are rabbits, jaguars, dantas, coyotes, squirrels and pumas.
